Single Sign on for Openfire XMPP using Spark

$

Hi I followed below steps to Single Sign on for Openfire.

28 Steps to Single Sign On for Openfire XMPP Server on Windows Server 2012 R2 with Spark

Below are My Server details

Active directory Server :

Server IP : aaa.bbb.ccc.dd

Server Domain : abcdef.LAB

Server Host :  ADServerHostName

Service Account in AD for openfire: xmpp-openfire

Sevice Account Password in AD  : xxxxxxxxxx

OS : Windows 2008 R2

Openfire Server

Server IP : pp.qqq.rrr.sss

Server Host :  OpenfireServerHostName

Server Domain : abcdef.LAB

OS : Windows Server 2016

Openfire Details :

  xmpp.fqdn : OpenfireServerHostName.abcdef.LAB

I have installed Spark in Openfire Server itself to act as Client.  If I set System Property sasl.mechs to PLAIN, I am able to login using the Active Directory User and Password.  However I do not want to provide the password for logging in again.  So I set sasl.mechs to GSSAPI.  When I Changed to this property, I am getting below error.

Feb 27, 2017 12:44:50 AM org.jivesoftware.smack.util.DNSUtil resolveDomain

WARNING: Exception while resovling SRV records for OpenfireServerHostName. Consider adding '_xmpp-(server|client)._tcp' DNS SRV Records

javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: DNS name not found [response code 3]; remaining name '_xmpp-client._tcp.OpenfireServerHostName'

Please let me know where I am making mistake or I have missed any settings

Thanking in advance.

В VisualVM (and Java JDK) не получилось снять Heap Dump, лог Process Monitor прикрепляю ( Скачать spark.rar ).

If you don't find such settings in default.properties, it means there are no such settings. So, your only option is some scripts.

2.5.8 is too old. Can't help with it. I suggest trying to figure out the problem with the latest 2.8.3 version. First you can try clean install (if you don't care for chat history). Stop Spark. Uninstall it and make sure there is no Spark folder in Program files (x86). Then delete Spark folder at c/users/your_user/appdata/roaming. Install 2.8.3 and check. If the problem is still present check logs at c/users/your_user/appdata/roaming/spark/logs

This was reported a few times once 2.7.6 has been released, but we never find the cause of it. https://community.igniterealtime.org/thread/58627 A user has solved this by replacing jre folder in Spark with one from 2.7.5 installation. But you will have to save that jre folder and copy it after every Spark update. This is some Java issue, but hard to find out what specifically. Only a small number of users are affected.

I did eventually do this. Using 2.8.3.  It works now, but some features are missing, the initially log in screen is "grayed out" and the login options are gone. Once logged in i have no log out option and no appearance option. In order to log out i have to force close the program. And cant make the tiny font bigger.

Limted options are because of Client Control plugin installed on your server (Openfire). Ask your server admin to update that plugin or remove it if it's not needed. Then all the settings be back. But new plugin's version requires at least 4.0.0 version of server.

Spark 2.8.3 showing room passwords when typed

We are testing Spark v2.8.3 against our Openfire v4.0.3 server.  After logging into the new Spark client, on Windows or Mac, when we enter password protected rooms and enter the passwords for them, the passwords are visible and not being hidden by the black dots as they are when we enter our own credentials to log into the client itself.  Did someone forget and leave this as a text field instead of a password field?

To Avoid this Error durring Login to Spark Called:

spark unable to verify certificate

1. In Spark Login Window or Box, Click on > "Advanced" Button > Next add a checkmark on these Two Options called:

- Accept all certificates (self-signed/expired/not trusted)

- Disable certificae hostname verification (not recommended)

2. Click > OK> And Login to your Account. (It should now log you in Successfully and without any Error!)

It has been fixed in the current source code. Should be in the 2.9.0 version (can't tel when it will be available).

Newer Spark-Versions don't work right

Hi - we use Spark since some years on work. Up to Spark Version 2.7.6 all worked fine, but all newer versions sucks in our network.

The Problem is that the list of the collegues are empty, when a client has a newer version then 2.7.6

The actuel 2.8.3. even show this effect. Users that have 2.7.3 installed see the collegues with newer client and also can

send messages to this collegues. The collegues with newer clients even can answere to this messages, but they can not

start a conversation with the 'invisible' users

We run Spark on Windows 10 and use Kerio-Connect-Server (Version 9.2.1).

Something changed in Spark from version 2.7.6 on that cause the effect and I have no clue what this could be or

what to do to avoid the discribed problem. Have somone a hint, what to do?

TIA

Budgie

with your 2.8.3 clients, its possible the upgrade didn't overwrite all the files.  on a workstation that is experiencing the issue, please try the following

uninstall spark

delete %appdata%\spark

check for  c:\program files x86\spark - if folder is there, delete it

reinstall spark

Hi speedy, thx for your quick response! I can try out tomorrow at work.

Nevertheless I made some experiments with de-/re-installing and installing in a new folder with no success.

Indeed I've not deleted anything in registry. Ok, I will try out this too und tell you if any difference occures.

THX,

Budgie

Deleting he registry keys won't do much. I have no experience with that 'Kerio-Connect-Server'. Maybe this is something on the server side. Sure, there were lots of changes in Spark for 2.8 (underlying main Smack library has been updated to the latest one, which means a few years of changes in it). But it works with Openfire and some other xmpp servers. You can check the logs in Spark (and maybe there are logs on that server). Well, you always have an option to run 2.7 (latest version was 2.7.7).

Labas wroot,
as
predicted the fresh installation, even on a virgin machine, makes no difference in behavior of Spark-client

Taking your advice I've looked in log-file and there is noticed a serious error:

Mär 03, 2017 1:08:01 PM org.jivesoftware.spark.util.log.Log error
SCHWERWIEGEND: Unable to contact shared group info.
org.jivesoftware.smack.XMPPException$XMPPErrorException: XMPPError: feature-not-implemented - cancel

    at java.util.concurrent.ThreadPoolExecutor$Worker.run(Unknown Source)
    at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)

I don't know whether this might be helpful (?). Could be, that the output of debug-window, when you start spark in debugging-mode

is more purposeful?

Kerio-Connect (http://www.kerio.com/products/kerio-connect/server) has included a xmpp-part and worked fine with spark version 2.7x and below.

Since we does'nt changed anything in Kerio-configuration,  the reson of the issue must be a specific change in 2.8.x-version.

TIA,

Budgie
